Oil Paint on Paper.
20cm x 20cm.

The work in question was produce by continually added blue tones to the surface then repeatedly sanding down the surface. In doing so the paint strokes that are visible are in fact smooth to the touch and offer a contrast that once again indicates a contradiction in surface that Rowell recurrently explores in his artwork. The minimalist nature of the painting allows the viewer to focus predominately on the surface over any external connotations that could potentially remove the absorption of colour.
