Oil Paint on Paper.
20cm x 20cm.

The intense nature to the crimson red allows for a loose structure to be applied, without removing any overall composition. The painting acts as a photographic still to the frantic application of paint and forces an aggressive tone to the work, allowing the viewer to monitor the continual movement in shape and form. This is one of Rowell's first encounters with a structure that focuses on an agitating surface quality, rather than an effortlessly smooth quality.
