There is a purposefully lack of balance in this painting, with the artwork looking to question the need for a central focus. The eye is naturally drawn to the lower right of the painting and therefore an unnerving sensation is felt. The black follows this notion as the gloss like nature to metal paint unnerves the viewer by forcing their own reflection upon them, something that is unexpected in painting. This offers an unusual quality to the work, relying heavily on the participation of the audience through their personal reflection and the eye contact they are able to make with themselves through a reflective surface.
